Your day begins as soon as you step ashore when you are met by your personal tour guide from Cornish Welcome Tours with their special knowledge and love of Devon and Cornwall.

We travel by car through Plymouth via the Barbican with its Elizabethan houses, viewing the Mayflower Steps from where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for the New World and Captain Cook set sail on his famous voyages of exploration.

Passing over Plymouth Hoe, where Sir Francis Drake played bowls before defeating the Spanish Armada, we head over the River Tamar into Cornwall to visit Cotehele House. This is a Tudor house with a splendid collection of textiles, armour, and furniture set in extensive grounds overlooking the River Tamar. It is a house of many stories, myths and legends and little has changed since it was built. A visit to the house is a magical experience and we consider it one of our favourite historic houses in Britain.

We lunch in a local village Inn with connections to the ancient tin mines which abound in the area.

After lunch we visit the ancient Stannary town of Tavistock with its ruined abbey and wonderful Victorian town centre built by the Duke of Bedford who was a prominent local landowner. Here we enjoy a classic Devon Cream Tea, a treat not to be missed, before we head back to Plymouth via scenic Dartmoor with its open moor land, wild ponies and sheep to re-embark with unforgettable memories of a fabulous day out.
